Description:
The development of a new retail and culture centre on the site of a former abattoir in Horsens is based on the vision of creating a dynamic flow between the existing city centre, the shopping street, the railway station and the green recreative areas.
The development which is located on a 34,000 square metres large site will include a shopping centre, a culture centre, housing and office development. The masterplan has received particular praise for its dynamic design which will create a sense of cohesion between the city’s existing urban identity and the new retail and recreational areas. The housing blocks, the green areas, the squares and the railway form a border between the centre and the large park which generates a dynamic civic scale. The masterplan both maintains and expand this scale.
Central to the overall disposition of the new part of the city is creating interesting and people-friendly public spaces where different functions supplement each other because of their proximity, whilst they still maintain their own obvious identities. The design will create a vibrant cultural and commercial hub for the citizens and visitors in the city.
