Topping-out ceremony at Nykredit's new Crystal

– Nov 20th, 2009

The construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2010.

"Tradition says that a topping-out ceremony is held when the roof construction is raised, and so one is well underway with construction and that the major challenges of the land and the building's main structures are in place. Today's buildings have moved this border, where the sharp modernist volume and flat roofs do not represent a clear picture of a raised roof construction. Today at the topping out ceremony for the Crystal this has a whole new meaning. What we have here is not a roof construction but a large three-dimensional structure that at the same time forms the building's walls, floor and roof. This structure will be clad in a glass façade and metal. And will appear as a sharp cut crystal, which is based on a line and one point." said the responsible Partner Kim Holst Jensen in his speech at the topping-out ceremony.

Nykredit has emphasised sustainable solutions in their new office building. Among the environmentally friendly initiatives is solar power, recycled rainwater, four layers of glass and natural ventilation throughout the house.

One of the crystal's other environmentally conscious efforts are a sea water cooling system, which will draw water from Copenhagen Harbour for cooling the building.

The first glass facades will be fitted in early 2010, at the same time as the roof is put in place. When the roof is finished, the installation of the 800 m² solar panels will begin. The solar panel will supply 80,000 kWh per year for the climate friendly construction.
