BIM and sustainability/
Through the use of Building Information Modeling – BIM – schmidt hammer lassen architects is investigating new environmental analysis and simulation tools and explore the benefits and challenges of implementing these tools into the design process.
Software programs such as Ecotect and Green Building Studio can improve, demonstrate and test assumptions that are established for the sustainable building work that schmidt hammer lassen architects develop.
When environmental analysis and simulation tools are used from the earliest stages of a design project, it is possible to effectively optimise the sustainable elements of the building in correlation with the local conditions such as site orientation, solar access and seasonal winds. Likewise, the materials used in the construction can be included in the analysis. It has been found that it is at the beginning of a project that the greatest economic benefits can be gained in the optimisation of the sustainable construction elements.
