Description:
Ankerskogen Aqua Park in Hamar was, when it was built in 1980, the biggest in Norway and Northern Europe. The new swimming pool is a significant upgrade of the existing facilities with the addition of new activities.
The clean, clear-cut building lies in the landscape with its beautiful composition of white surfaces and large terraces. A new double height foyer replaces the existing entrance area and will form the heart of the building with ticket counter and café in close visual contact with all activities in the building. The hustle and bustle of the family area is added to the entrance side towards the North while a new 25 m pool is situated in close proximity to the existing olympic size competition pool. In close contact with nature, the Spa area is situated facing south along with new therapy and rehabilitation pools. Existing changing and shower rooms will be renovated and modernised. An existing tennis hall will be integrated actively with new sports and exercise activities.
Externally, the swimming pool is composed of white, plastered surfaces and a high degree of transparency, openness and variation in lighting through the glazed areas. On the inside, the materials and colours are equally clean, light and accommodating. New landscaping in front of the building offers parking and activities as well as level-free access for citizens and users of the swimming pool alike.
