Description:
In July 2006, Lego Systems opened a new innovation laboratory where designers can withdraw in small working groups to develop brand new products and ideas. The room of the lab is completely white on floors, ceiling and walls just like all furniture and equipment are kept in white.
The launch of the innovation lab was just the first phase in a much larger exhibition project, which opened in the fall of 2006. The project included a complete historic presentation of Lego’s business development – a journey through time and space in reverse chronological order. The journey starts in the future where virtual play with Lego components and web communities challenges the traditional way of playing, and it goes back to the present and then the past with patenting of the Lego plastic block and further back to the starting point in the 30s, where wooden toys dominated the toy production.
schmidt hammer lassen architects designed the innovation lab and the whole exhibition project according to a concept developed by schmidt hammer lassen design. The implementation was done by Kvorning design & communication.
