Description:
Wadi Abdoun is a proposal for a new city quarter in Amman, Jordan. Formed as a composition of seven buildings placed around an open public space, this new quarter is intended to become a new business and leisure destination, which will be connected to a dynamic residential district in the city.
This mixed use scheme incorporates a number of sustainable concepts, most notably an innovative double layered façade constructed in local stone.
The layout of the façades is inspired by the Arabic Mousharabieh, and thus the façades create a veil that entails a natural-stack effect to occur forcing hot air upwards between the façades and cooling the building envelope. This in turn helps reduce the required load on the air conditioning systems and thus the energy consumption is reduced.
